Over 1,000 people will gather to circle the Idaho State Capitol on July 17, 2015 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the passage of the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA). The event begins at 11:00 a.m. Mayor Dave Bieter from the City of Boise will kick off our celebration welcoming attendees to the beautiful City of Boise followed by Lawrence Denney, Secretary of State of Idaho reading a state proclamation.
Lineup to circle the Capitol begins at 11:20 a.m. You don't want to miss this opportunity to make history on July 17, Idaho is the only state in the nation to circle the Capitol linked by a yellow ribbon showing support for the 25th anniversary of the ADA and our servicemen and women. Circle the Capitol and get free ADA swag and a Guru Donut.
At the Idaho State Capitol, self-guided tours and “Accessible Voting System Demonstrations” with over 5 vendors on the 2nd floor in the rotunda from 10:00 to 4:00 you are invited to test the voting systems.
In Capitol Park activities include speeches, awards, live music at 1:30 with Jimmy Bivens and 3:30 Rebecca Scott, a children's area, photo booth, unclaimed property search and an opportunity for individuals to share their stories about the ADA to be included in a video production, ADA Photo Display, food trucks and much more.
Speeches will be made by Wendy Olsen, U.S. Attorney with the Department of Justice, Steven Snow, Director of the Idaho Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Richard Pimentel, International Consultant on Employment and Retention for People with Disabilities and Keynote Kelly Buckland, Director of the National Council on Independent Living.
In addition to circling the Capitol, Capitol Park will host over 40 public awareness booths providing information and educational materials on the following but not limited to:
Accessible voting options
Accessible transportation
Assistive technology
Effective Communication
Disaster planning that includes people with disabilities
Suicide Prevention
Resources on the ADA, Human Rights Act and Fair Housing Act
Employment resources and opportunities for individuals with disabilities
Home and Community Based Services
Unclaimed Property
